Information Technology Peer Group Meeting

Data Privacy Controls and Protection Strategies
March 12, 2019 09:00 AM - 03:00 PM
What are the most effective ways to develop a data privacy program for your enterprise?

Details
Description:

Gartner's recent Emerging Risks Report concluded that increasing privacy regulations is the second most critical business risk facing organizations today. Companies are gathering unprecedented amounts of personal information with little regulations or controls governing such activities. Recent news stories like Cambridge Analytica and Facebook have only heightened sensitivity towards privacy concerns and have resulted with an increasing slate of legislations that will reign in every aspect of data collection, storage and usage. The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has effectively reframed the global conversation on data privacy, placing stricter guidelines and hefty fines for non-compliance. Similar legislations are now pending at state houses across the US, and adhering to the sleuth of new privacy regulations would add a considerable burden on the already highly leveraged security, compliance and audit teams.

Understanding and navigating the complex and rapidly evolving digital ethics, trust & privacy landscape can be a challenge for any organization. Creating a robust data governance and control framework that is effective and resilient to adopt with changing legislation and technological development can be a daunting task. Furthermore, these programs should not impede vital data-intensive efforts within the enterprise. The March meeting of the IT peer group will examine how best to implement an effective and compliant data privacy and protection strategy. This would be an exceptional opportunity for IT leaders, analytics, data, compliance, security and audit professionals to learn and discuss how best to deliver an effective data privacy program.
